OceanWP Review 2024
by Adam Preiser updated Feb 23, 2024
OceanWP is a WordPress theme with innovative features and is the most generous free theme I have ever seen. There is a suite of extensions that can be purchased which will extend the theme even further.
Ease Of Use
OceanWP is not as easy to use as other themes that are available primarily because the options are all over the place.
Price / Value
Rating is based on the free version. The Pro version is more expensive than all other Pro themes.
Support
The support experience is really good. There have been issues that linger and are not resolved in a timely manner.
OceanWP Pros
- Fully Responsive
- eCommerce Ready
- Fully Customizable
- Advanced Mega Menu
- RTL Support
- Free Templates
OceanWP Cons
- Too Many Advertisements In The Free Version
- Too Many Plugins Are Required To Install
- Slow “Out Of The Box” When Compared To Other Themes
- Poorly Organized Options Panel
- Default Styling Is Dated
- Demo Sites Are Dated
OceanWP Coupon Discounts
There are currently no active OceanWP Coupon or OceanWP Discounts available. However, sometimes there are promotions on their website to save you 10% or so.
OceanWP Review: Wrap Up
OceanWP is the most feature-packed free theme that is available.
For a theme that work with any page builder, it has some innovative features that I have never seen in a theme. Primarily it’s strength is with e-commerce websites and has all the feature that you would normally expect to pay for.
If you are new to WordPress, the customizer options and the option boxes found in each post/page can be overwhelming and hard to make sense of at times.

Yes I agree. I think this is core of the problem. It was one of the best on the World but they didn’t work on plugins 2 years. Thank you for comment.
Import from PRO DEMO doesnt work properly for home pages. And you cant contact support. Thank you for all coockies. I went to other themes.
I used OceanWP and absolutely loved it, but the new update of WordPress pretty much borked it. The Ocean Extra add-on adds unwanted code that other themes and some browsers don’t like-when you switch themes, you’re told that. The other plugins associated with OceanWP haven’t been updated in ages, in some examples, in years, and yet they’re still offered.
While I loved the options, I’ve switched to Neve and Astra. I’ll use Elementor for the rest. (I did have trouble with Elementor, but after clearing all the caches, I’m good).
What would be the affect on website speed if i use 2-3 plugins such as Anspress , Livestreaming plugin
AnsPress is a very bad plugin, I am speaking from personal experience and lessons learned. But to answer your question, it depends.
Thanks for the article. I was about to use Divi again for an ecommerce site and decided to research, and stumbled upon Elementor and OceanWP, so the research continues.
hey, Looks like your wrap came too early. They’re offering huge discounts on their products. Up-to 30%. I’ve used oceanwp and another theme, which I cannot remember, but I absolutely love oceanwp. Wish I had the time to play around with it more to get the best out of it.
Would love your feedback on my website, however. And a happy new year to you and yours.. Regards
First time here and loved your style of reviewing..
Hello, I am trying to work on website and i need to install ocean wp theme but when i press the button Install now it shows ”The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.’ So what I need to do.
You will have to contact your web host to ask them to increase the upload limit.
Hi there,
If I use Elementor Pro, do I need OceanWP at all? What are the benefits in using both together?
Not really, Elementor Pro can do everything now.
I use OceanWP on all my client projects when I can. There are a few menu quirks but the support is so amazing that it far outweighs any issues. It’s overall the best theme I have used and with Gutenberg add-ons, I can honestly say I don’t see any need for fancy page builders.
A few months later, how has it been?
OceanWP is a young theme and is not created by a developer with a long track record. Since the framework of the theme was a GPL fork from another theme, in my opinion, the options are not as intuitive as I would like to see. <—what is the real one?
It was a theme from the same developer of the Total theme. Not that it matters any longer really. OceanWP is very different, but still, the customizer options could be improved.
What is the different between Ocean Extras and Elementor Pro?
Ocean Extras is just additional modules, some are the same the come with Elementor Pro, but I would choose the native Elementor modules. If you have Elementor Pro, there is little need for Ocean Extras.
After watching many multiple videos on OceanWP, I feel pretty confident that I’d be A Okay buying the Pro version for ALL my work sites while I experiment with the other free ones for projects. This was the first theme I tried and because I spent so many hours familiarizing myself with it, I’m most comfortable using it and looking forward to the Pro version upgrades.
My previous comment is IF your using Elementor. Sorry for any confusion… my mistake. WP is driving me insane.
Free OceanWP apparantly you can’t remove the top bar with out a $10 extention.
That’s odd, there should be an option in the customizer.
I purchased the extensions package for ocean wp, I’m guessing you need to download the free version of ocean wp first then add the extensions after? just like Elementor pro works only with the free elementor plugin downloaded. Thanks for all your help Adam!
Yes that is exactly it!
Adam I’m having an issue with using the costomization panel right now when I have OceanWP installled. But if I switch it to another theme, the customization works fine. Can you help me with this?
Thats very odd. What happens when you try in a different web browser? Same thing?
Hello Adam. I’m a freelance designer and I’m trying to start building websites with WordPress.
I would like to be able to build the content pages, but also control things like the look and width of the main menus and headers, in desktop versions as well as mobile. What combination would you favor for that? Astra Pro and Elementor Pro or OceanWP and Elementor Pro? Or is there any other theme /page builder combination that you think would work better? I’ve used OceanWP and Elementor Free version as a test and it seems pretty good, but I’d like more customization on things like the look of the mobile menu.
Thanks in advance for your answer!!
I would go with Astra Pro and Elementor Pro. Right now you can use the nav menu element in Elementor which is highly customizable. Also with Astra Pro you can create then entire header using Elementor, so this is ultimate control.
It’s pure functionality and ease of use is simply the best thing I have worked with in years. It reminds me of when Genesis framework hit.
I can now offer my clients more customization and at even cheaper rates. Nick has made a beautiful piece of art work in this development. Worth every penny and combined with Elementor Pro I will never have to work with another client who insists on a themeforest template.
Great review Adam.
Can I use oceanWP in multiple site or domain? Is elementor pro features are included inside it ?
Yes, you can use it on unlimited websites, but it doesn’t include Elementor Pro elements. It does have some of its own, but they are not meant to replace Elementor Pro.
